Tap Dance Courses   View Complete Course Schedule   Prerequisites: Unknown Instructor: Jason Kalish The tap program will follow closely in age/level with the ballet program. Children in Pre-school dance II and above can participate. After grade 1 the program is broken into 3 levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. For the younger age group the tap syllabus will be modeled on the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance tap syllabus. Course Description Preschool Level II Starts at age 4. Our youngest students develop a solid tap foundation. This course focuses on basic exercises i.e. toe taps, straight taps, heel toe, shuffles and imaginative learning. Our students will build strong feet and ankles while learning control and developing a strong sense of rhythm. Pre-primary The target age is 5. Our students continue building the foundation with more complex steps i.e. shuffle step, flaps, basic cramp roll. They will also begin to move these steps across the floor. Primary The target age is 6. This level continues to work on compound practice steps including shuffle ball-change, shuffle hop-steps, pick-up steps etc. We introduce more complex but fun upbeat choreography to popular music. Grade I The target age is 7. This is the last level of our strong tap foundation program. Our students acquire the addition skills of maxi fords, basic time step, buffalo etc. Students are now well versed in all basic steps, will perform strong choreography and are ready to move on to the faster paced beginner level with the “really fast feet” of Jason Kalish! Beginner/Intermediate Student must be at least 8 to begin. After building a strong foundation this is the most exciting tap class you will ever see. Cutting edge choreography, music to inspire and an atmosphere that is fun and full of energy. Students will continue to build their repertoire of steps and have the chance to really perform them.
